I wanted to have a pity party of one when I went for that beer. I never imagined I would meet a dark and dangerous man. That man took me on the wildest ride of my life. Literally and Figuratively. He quickly became my entire world.
I didn't know I was looking for her. I saw her warming that bar stool and knew she would be mine. A man like me doesn't deserve the likes of her. But damned if I didn't take it.
When we met for the first time we didn't know that we already had a connection. A cruel game was being played, and we didn't know the rules. Sam would save us, but at what cost? Sam was one of my main reasons for living. If he wasn't in this world anymore, would I still want to be a part of it?

Sam and Cheyenne! The book that started it all, although it is not the first Lani Lynn Vale book that I read. This is where we meet the Freebirds and find out more about what they do. While they are mechanics they also help rescue women from domestic violence. They are all former (or currently) in the military and live within their compound.
I will say that when you read about the compound you worry about what they were thinking. Shielding themselves behind walls and gates. Then as you read you realize they have seen things that would make most of us refuse to leave the house. Sam is their leader and he is a good man. He had a crappy childhood and has a father he hates. We meet his dad Silas (who happens to be one of my favorite characters, flaws and all) in this book as well.
Cheyenne is connected to Sam through not only her brother James but also her best friend’s brother. Although neither of them know it when they first meet. They have off the charts chemistry and while they have a little miscommunication at first they work it out.
When a former team member decides Sam shouldn’t have a happy life things begin to get dicey. Left to protect not only the woman he loves, but the other women he’s sworn to protect will take all of Sam’s knowledge. He will make a deal with the devil (Silas) to get it done.
If you haven’t read Lani Lynn Vale, this is the best place to start. You meet characters that will be seen in future books and series. You find yourself drawn into her world and can’t wait for the next book. Luckily with this series you can read them right away.
